New Zealand’s largest Māori-owned Community Housing Provider, Te Āhuru Mōwai is nearing completion of 10 new discounted apartments on Beach Rd, Paekākāriki.

Te Āhuru Mōwai is seeking recommendations from Paekākāriki Housing Trust for potential tenants with local connections.

There are 4 x 3-bedroom, 4 x 2-bedroom and 2 x 1-bedroom kaumatua apartments available, likely from 21 December. They are right next to the shops, a couple of minutes walk to the beach and close to the train station.  The 2- and 3-bedroom apartments have stairs (and lovely views).

The apartments are being valued this week so we don’t yet know what the rent will be, but they will all be 20% below market rent. Due to the close-knit development with neighbours, Te Āhuru Mōwai are not considering people with dogs, and any cats should be declared up front.

To make an application, please fill in the Application Form (PDF 134 KB).

You can submit your application by email to paekakarikihousingtrust@gmail.com (or by submitting it directly to Te Āhuru Mōwai if you prefer).

There’s likely to be a lot of demand for these lovely homes, so please make a good case for yourselves by including:

  • Your whakapapa (if relevant), particularly if you whakapapa to Ngāti Haumia ki Paekākāriki/Ngāti Toa

  • Your ties to Paekākāriki

  • If you have tamariki that are or will be will be attending our local kura

  • Reference/s from landlord/s (or indication you can get a good reference from your current landlord if you’re shortlisted)

  • Character reference/s from local/s.

There’s not much time to apply. All applications must be received by the end of Monday 26 October.

We will forward all applications, along with any recommendations we feel we can make, to Te Āhuru Mōwai on Tuesday 27 October. Te Āhuru Mōwai will consider these – and applications made directly to them – and will follow their own processes and criteria to make a shortlist. They will likely meet with shortlisted applicants in individual appointments somewhere around November 12 to November 20, ideally in Paekakariki.

Please share this information with people you know who have a connection to Paekākāriki, will be good tenants, and are looking for a new home.

Because a good community is no accident.
